How Much Will It Cost
&
How Long Will It Take
Below are rough estimates on how long a common jobs will take, all times quoted are subject to the current condition of the electrical installation.
Gas & Water bonding may need to be installed if it is undersized or missing
RCD's may need to be installed or upgraded to a different type to comply with current regulations
Larger installations may even require the supply to upgraded to cope with the new demand.
Surge protection may need to be installed if not already

Electricians have a responsibility to ensure that electrical systems are safe to use, to achieve this upgrades may be needed.
EICR
An EICR for a average home will take around 3-4 hours.
However this is an estimate, factors that can effect this are the condition of the installation and number of circuits. Smaller properties may take less time and larger properties may take longer.
The outcome of a domestic ECIR is to ensure the safety and integrity of the property’s electrical system.

If you are a homeowner, a EICR is recommended every 10 years unless the previous electrician has recommended the installation should be tested at a shorter interval due to the condition at the time of the previous EICR

If you’re a landlord, you must renew your EICR every 5 years or when your tenancy changes.
Stricter regulations come into force in July 2020.
Local authorities are responsible for enforcing these rules under the Housing Act 2004.

Rewire
Average 3 bedroom house will typically take around 6 days.
What affects the time:
Size of the property
Is the property is occupied or not?
The specifications of the new installation, amount of lights sockets
The amount of chasing and if plastering is required.
A site visits from one of our electricians is recommended to provided an accurate estimates for rewires

Changing A Light
Fitting
Most light fittings will be changed / installed within our minimum hour charge, possibly two if no issues arise. Some decorative light fittings can take a little longer if lots of crystal or glass needs to be hung onto the new light, if floor boards need to be lifted or if access is difficult (high level)
Dressing the light fitting can be left for the customer to reduce the labour.
High value / heavy light fittings may need an additional electrical to help with which will increase the labour cost. This will not be the case for every day light fittings
Consumer
Unit
Replacement
Replacing a consumer unit for a average home can take between 3-5 hours.
Flats may be slight less depending on size, Larger properties may be more.
What affects the time:
The amount of circuits and testing
Upgrades to the installation to meet current standards IE Bonding
Adding An
Additional
Socket
A new socket can be installed in 1-2 hours if an existing socket is local to the new socket and doesn't require and chasing.
If the new socket is far away from any other local circuit, floor boards need to be lifted, chasing need to be completed it may take a little longer.
EV Charger
Installation
An electric vehicle (EV) charger installation can 2 hours to several hours, depending on the complexity of the installation.
For example if the EV charge point is to be installed in a garage, the consumer unit is in the garage and the current installation is suitable. This would be a relatively quick installation.
Other costs to consider is the charge point its self, they range from £300-£1500. Research is recommence when choosing a car charger.
A site visits from one of our electricians is recommended to provided an accurate estimates for EV charger installations
